  • Many of the old buildings of Abashiri Prison, which are preserved and open to the public at the Abashiri Prison Museum, are wooden buildings that were built over 100 years ago. Thank you for your cooperation in preserving cultural properties.
  • Smoking is prohibited on the museum grounds.
  • Abashiri City has been segregating its trash since 2005. Thank you for your cooperation in doing the same. All trash cans have been removed from the parking lots.
  • There are no restrictions on taking photographs inside the museum, but please refrain from using photographs for commercial purposes (such use of footage for sales publications) or taking videos for sites such as YouTube.
  • Please refrain from behavior that will bother other tour visitors.
  • Do not bring in dangerous objects.
  • If discovered that graffiti, damage, or defacement has been done to the buildings or materials, the responsible party will be required to compensate for the damage. Thank you again for your cooperation.
  • As of April 2009, we have prohibited pets and small animals from being brought to the Abashiri Prison Museum. Assistance dogs (guide/hearing/service dogs) are still allowed to enter.
