Unveil the enchanting Scottish Highlands on a full-day tour from Edinburgh. Discover Glenfinnan, Fort William, and Glencoe, and explore where the famous Harry Potter movies were filmed.
- What You Can Expect -
Start from the Edinburgh city center, passing by some of its most iconic sights, like Edinburgh Castle, on your way out and begin your journey north into the rugged Scottish Highlands.
Before heading to Glencoe, pause at Callander, the gateway to the Highlands. Stay here for refreshments and photos and to learn about Glencoe’s history, including the MacDonald clan’s massacre in 1692. This well-known, dramatic village is features in many films, such as James Bonds’ “Skyfall”, and is the backdrop to some scenes from “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”. Then, travel further along the banks of Loch Linnhe to the Highland town of Fort William, which sits at the foot of Britain’s tallest mountain, Ben Nevis. Stop here and have an early lunch break before journeying on to the Glenfinnan Viaduct.
Surrounded by mountains on the stunning shores of Loch Shiel, Glenfinnan Viaduct is famous for the scenes in Harry Potter films. See the location of the Jacobite Steam Train, and of “Black Lake”. Take in the setting for the Triwizard Tournament, and the loch on which Hogwarts sits. Next, visit the Glenfinnan Monument, which symbolizes one of the most important events in Scottish history: the 1745 Jacobite uprising.
Finally, begin your return journey to Edinburgh, stopping for refreshments at the small village of Pitlochry, before arriving safely at your drop-off point in Edinburgh.
