— What You Can Expect —

  • Kamikochi

Kamikochi is a tourist resort in the southern part of the Hida Mountains in Nagano Prefecture. Situated at an elevation of approximately 1,500 meters above sea level, the entire region belongs to Matsumoto City and is part of the Chubu Sangaku National Park. It holds the status of a national cultural treasure and a special natural monument. Kamikochi features hot springs and serves as a base for climbing the peaks of Mt. Hotaka and Mt. Yari. The name “Kamikochi” comes from the hiragana rendering of “神垣內” (kamikōchi), which refers to the divine presence of “Hotakami-no-Mikoto” (穗高見命) from the Higashiyama Shrine descending to Mt. Hotaka and being worshiped there (Hotaka Shrine Okumiya and Myojin Pond). In order to protect the natural environment, private cars are not allowed to enter.

– Taisho Pond

Taisho Pond is a volcanic lake formed by the eruption of Mt. Yakedake in the year 1915. Within the lake, the scenery of deadhead trees present various dreamlike scenes that change with the seasons and over time.

– Tashiro Pond

Tashiro Pond is a shallow wetland. The new greenery in May, the yellow leaves in October, and the thin ice in late autumn offer a variety of breathtaking views throughout the year.

– Kappabashi Bridge

Kappabashi Bridge is one of the most iconic attractions in Kamikochi, and it’s just a 5-minute walk from the bus center. From the bridge, enjoy panoramic views overlooking the Hotaka mountain range, Mt. Yakedake, and Azusa River. During the May Golden Week, summer vacation, and the autumn foliage season, it attracts numerous tourists from both Japan and abroad.

  • Tateyama Kurobe

“Tateyama Kurobe”, which straddles Toyama Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture in Japan, is also known as the “Japanese Alps” and the “Rooftop of Japan .” Tateyama Murodo, at an altitude of 2450 meters above sea level, receives one of the largest annual snowfalls in the world. From mid-September, the red autumn foliage is on full display, and there is a high chance of snowfall in mid-to-late October. The spectacle of the maple leaf season keeps many people coming back!
