— What You Can Expect —

  • Kamikochi
Kamikochi, located in the upper reaches of the Azusagawa River in the southern Hida Mountains of western Nagano Prefecture, is a popular summer resort area. It boasts hot springs and serves as a base for climbing Mount Hotaka and Mount Yari.
  • Taisho Pond
Lake Yakedake, a volcanic lake created by the eruption of Mount Yakedake, offers surreal views of “decayed” trees that vary with the season and time of day.
  • Tashiro Pond
Explore a shallow marshland offering stunning views of fresh greenery in May, yellow leaves in October, and thin ice in late autumn.
  • Kappa Bridge
A symbolic attraction of Kamikochi, located just a 5-minute walk from the bus center, the Kappa Bridge offers breathtaking views of the Hotaka Peaks, Mount Yakedake, and the Azusagawa River. During the long holidays in May, summer holidays, and the autumn leaf season, this spot attracts many local and overseas visitors.
  • Myojin Pond
It takes approximately 60 minutes to walk from Kappa Bridge along the upper reaches of the Azusagawa River to reach Myojin Pond, known as the sacred area of Hotaka Okumiya Shrine. This tranquil spot offers a chance to immerse yourself in nature, surrounded by various wild plants and birds. The view from Myojin Bridge is spectacular, making it a favorite spot for photography enthusiasts.
  • Hotaka Peaks
The Hotaka Peaks are visible from various scenic spots in Kamikochi, making them an essential part of the area’s charm. Among them, Mount Oku-Hotaka stands out as the third highest peak in Japan. It is recognized as one of “Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains,” “Japan’s New 100 Famous Mountains,” and “100 Famous Mountain of Flowers.”
  • Mount Yakedake
An active volcano in the Northern Alps of Japan, the sight of smoke rising into the blue sky from Mount Yakedake is exceptionally beautiful.
  • Hotaka Okumiya Shrine
There is a rest area called “Kamonji Hut” with a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1880. Sitting by the traditional hearth and enjoying freshly grilled rockfish will make you reluctant to leave.
