・Kumano Big Fireworks Festival

The Kumano Great Fireworks Festival has a history of 250 to 300 years. Its origins can be traced back to the Edo period. It was originally held as one of the Bon Festival activities of Gokuraku-ji Temple in Kimoto-cho, Kumano City, to worship the ancestors. Although the fireworks display was small at the time, there was already a tradition of fireworks competition. In the early Meiji era, some forms of fireworks were banned, but fireworks activities continued to develop, and the location of fireworks was gradually moved to the coast. After entering the Taisho period, fireworks activities added tourism elements and became more spectacular. However, due to the impact of World War II, the event was suspended before 1945, and was taken over by the Kumano City Tourism Association in 1946. Since 1963, the event has been held on August 17 every year. In 1999, the event created the world's first "four two-foot-tama self-explosions in the sea at the same time" feat.

Highlights

・Sea-exploding fireworks: Two ships traveling at high speed will throw fireworks into the sea, creating a stunning sea-surface fireworks display.

・Sanshakudama Sea Explosion: This event has been carried out since 1993. It involves placing a huge firework on a raft at sea and detonating it, with a radius of 600 meters, forming a spectacular semicircle of light.

・Ghost Castle: Using the echo effect of the castle cave, it creates a shocking fusion of explosion sounds and colorful fireworks. It is a wonderful performance not to be missed.
