About this tour

-What you can expect-
Experience night-time Lisbon, its colors, sounds, and tastes on this tour that will take you across the city until the neighborhood of Alfama, to relish traditional Portuguese food and a live Fado performance. Fado is a Portuguese word that means fate, destiny. It’s also the name of Lisbon’s most famous musical genre, “the song of Lisbon”, characterized by mournful tunes and grief-laden, soulful lyrics that transmit a strong feeling of longing and nostalgia. In this tour, you’ll be able to assist in a live performance in a traditional fado restaurant.

The tour will start wandering through the alleys and windy streets of old Lisbon on a walking tour through Mouraria and Alfama (1h approximately), where you’ll get to know the working-class neighborhoods and streets where Fado was born. Your guide will explain to you the history and the cultural importance of Fado, and how it shaped mentalities in Portugal and the Portuguese own sense of identity.

You’ll end the tour at a traditional Fado house where you’ll listen to the heartfelt melodies of this traditional music. Lose yourself in the atmosphere and mood of this typical genre played by the Portuguese guitar and characterized by mournful, heartbreaking lyrics. While you enjoy the music, you’ll also taste a traditional dinner. Homemade food, Portuguese wine, and an amazing environment are the keys to any good Portuguese evening.
