Located on the hilltop overlooking the River estuary, Fort San Domingo was first established by the Spanish in 1628. It is also one of the oldest historic buildings in Taiwan. The building was used for multiple functions including military defense, administrative buildings, and even dungeons. Tamsui Customs Officer’s Residence, or so-called “Little White House”, was built in1869 because of the opening of the Tamsui port. Its nickname comes from the ash-white, colonial-style appearance. Take a look at the arched white columns while sunset and enjoy the magnificent view on the terrace.
Hobe Fort was built in 1886 by Governor Liu Ming-Chuan in Ching Dynasty. Its geographic location makes it easier to defend enemies and also became an important military building that paved the way for the modernization of Taiwan in the Era of the Ching Dynasty.
